The Global Underwater Hub is a strategically-focused trade and industry development body dedicated to accelerating innovation and driving sustainable growth across the UK’s underwater sectors. Central to its mission is raising awareness of the underwater industry and promoting careers in subsea engineering and underwater technologies through advanced training and engaging STEM initiatives.
As part of this initiative, Luminous has developed a fully immersive VR experience that transports users beneath the waves, offering a hands-on introduction to real-world subsea environments and roles. The experience is designed to both educate and inspire, particularly among students and young professionals exploring careers in the underwater sector.
The app includes:
A virtual lobby where users can interact with digital avatars representing professionals from the industry – from pipeline engineers to AUV pilot technicians.
An interactive subsea environment, showcasing equipment such as subsea Xmas trees, trenchers, and even a dreadnought submarine.
Integration with the Luminous XR Portal – a powerful, multi-user learning management system (LMS) for VR – enabling future scalability with built-in gamification, assessments, analytics, and the ability to expand the training curriculum.
